People always comment on how huge the sky is in Detroit. It’s the wide boulevards and flat, Midwestern landscape that co-mingle for the city’s picturesque sunset vista. The breadth of Detroit’s sky is not unlike that of it’s creative work: far-reaching, inspiring, colorful, and a defining quality of the city. Detroit Research strives to document projects by and of the Detroit artistic landscape, including artists and thinkers who come from far and wide to collaborate and produce original work beneath Detroit’s layers of breathtaking, tireless, unforgettable clouds. Photographer Jeff Cancelosi is ever-present, and always with camera, in the many constellations of Detroit’s art scene, capturing a new ethnography of intimacy in the face-to-face encounter.
